By 2024, the Bureau of Labor Statistics BLS projects the US labor force will be about 164 million people. This number includes about 41 million people who will be ages 55 and older—of whom about 13 million are expected to be ages 65 and older. However, many employees feel even at age 40 that they are targets for layoffs and transitions due to their age.
